The Missionaries of the Poor brothers at the mission in Labuan Bajo have commenced a Catholic school sponsorship program for children that face hardships such as the loss of a father or other situations that place them under extreme adversity and poverty. These sponsorship programs pay for the education of these children with an annual contribution by sponsors as payment for school fees, uniforms, books and transport (average cost AUD$400 per sponsored child). Sponsors receive annual progress on the sponsored children. The brothers and Australian MOP Associates charge no administration fee for this service. In addition, the mission offers a second type of sponsorship of students, who are attending seminary primary or secondary school studying for the priesthood. These students are normally living away from home and so the cost is higher as it entails full board and tuition (price on request).
