Welcome back to the Labuan Bajo mission for 2016. In March of this year we travelled once again to the Mission. This year our Mission visit will be presented differently in that we will post several small postings on the visit; each will highlight different themes or profiles of the Mission, the town or its people. We will start with showing you some images of the new airport which now has the upper floor finished and open for departures. The airport now has a prominent Komodo Dragon effigy outside the airport, facing the road. Labuan Bajo is now the second most visited town in Indonesia for tourism, only exceeded by Denpasar in Bali. There are now over 30 hotels in the town, many more than the three or four hotels that were there when we first visited in 2010. Sadly, despite the influx of tourists and the building of many hotels in the town there are still many poor families living in Labuan Bajo.
See you next post when we re-visit the Missionaries of the Poor monastery in Labuan Bajo.
