During the last visit to Timor Leste, Trevor spent the day visiting 100 of the neediest families, in four villages around Maliana, providing food parcels for them. The four villages were Saburai, Memo, Pepgalak and the outskirts of Maliana. These families were chosen by the local village councillors, but unfortunately this number of families is only a tiny proportion of the disadvantaged families in the area. We commenced the previous day by shopping in bulk for all the grocery items at food stores in Maliana. Then, with the help of neighbours, we packaged up sugar and rice in smaller bags ready for the next day’s distributions. Thus, in total, the food parcels contained rice, sugar, sardines, coffee, powdered milk, cooking oil, salt, soap, toothpaste, several toothbrushes and a rosary. The day was hectic as several of the communities were quite remote and therefore were difficult to get to. The most remote village is Pepgalak a small community at about 1400 m elevation which is about an hour drive by 4WD from Maliana.
We trust you find the photos informative!! Next time we will visit Dili in Timor Leste where a consignment of supplies has just arrived for the MOP mission in a Rotary sponsored shipping container. Watch out for this post.
Blessings always
Trevor and Tina
