We had a major win this year as we managed to get eight cartons transported via a container by ship from Brisbane to Dili, thanks to the good people of Rotary Organisation. Brother Elmer from the mission at Saburai (including Maliana) offers free clinic services, including first aid and basic dental treatment. Thus, in a region such as Timor Leste, the clinic’s needs are great as access to medical supplies and medical treatment is very restricted. In addition to the medical supplies that were sent we included new school stationary, new school sports uniforms, toiletry and dental supplies, and religious items such as rosaries and prayer cards.
We are so grateful to our team of parishioners from our parish (Holy Family Catholic Parish, Indooroopilly) who in-kind supplied some of the contents and so much of their time in packing the eight cartons. In addition, in-kind donations were supplied by other parishioners and friends, Tully State High in northern Queensland, St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Kangaroo Point and Greenslopes Private Hospital and hand-made rosaries were made and donated by the Boonah Rosary Group and parishioners from Holy Family Parish. We thank all these generous donors for their contributions.
Lastly, but not least we wholeheartedly thank the generosity of Bren Milson through the Rotary Organisation and Clubs in Queensland and the Rotary representative in Dili to enable us to send, via their shipment of a cargo container, these eight cartons of supplies to the brothers of the Saburai Mission, to assist their work with the many poor of these communities in Timor Leste. In addition, 21 village wheel chairs were supplied by Rotary and these were delivered by the brothers to the disabled in Maliana, Memo and Saburai.
Overall it was a group effort told through the photos on this post from the initial packing of the boxes through to their eventual arrival and unpacking in Maliana.
A lot more to report on so we will see you next time…!!!!
With every blessing
