Mission for the Poor: Serving the people of Flores and Timor Leste

Mission Possible by Fr Nev: Hi everyone, Fr Nev here: Well the mission trip to Flores was indeed a wonderful learning experience for myself and my fellow missionaries. We were immersed in the life of the six professed brothers and 22 aspirants. Some of us experienced the daily spiritual routine of praying with the community morning, with midday, evening and night prayers. We were all blessed to have daily mass just before dinner. The joy and zeal we witnessed in the aspirants, particularly as they sang and danced, whether it at mass or in general, was palpable.  In addition, there were several days where we taught the aspirants English.

I remember when we first arrived at the monastery, the brothers welcomed us with a Bahasa song which, when translated, said “Welcome to our family”. For the nine days we were there, we felt like a family, and we dearly miss their hospitality, care and support. Being at the mission taught us the power of friendship and relationships, the simplicity of the lives of the brothers and how they embraced life to the full!!

We will meet again next time when we continue with the pilgrimage of Fr Nev and his fellow missionaries.
