In September, six boys from the apostolate (Seb, Ronald, Rio, Roy, Stef and Revan) received the sacrament of First Holy Communion at the parish church which is just down the road from the monastery. This church is the second Catholic church to be built in Labuan Bajo. Following the ceremony, the event was celebrated back at the monastery.
Families of the boys came from remote towns across Flores to attend. Remember, the brothers permanently look after these boys only because the families do not have the means to support or care for them. You will notice the last image shows the six boys in their favourite informal dress of shorts with rugby football jerseys – Nudgee Junior College colours (now Ambrose Treacy College, Indooroopilly).
These boys are to be congratulated on their effort to work through the preparation for the sacrament of First Holy Communion considering their levels of disability. In addition, the constant care and love provided by the brothers to these special needs people is truly saintly and exemplary.
Our next post will look at some work just completed around the monastery at Labuan Bajo.
Until then, blessings to all….
Trevor and Tina
