During our last stay at the mission in Labuan Bajo we made a visit to the Holy Spirit Sisters’ community down by the sea at Labuan Bajo. The sisters have an apostolate there for the disabled, who the sisters rehabilitate. The order has now been in Flores for over 50 years during which they have rehabilitated over 400 young people, enabling them to enter society and into the work force. One resident, who still lives at the apostolate in Labuan Bajo came to the sisters in the 1960s when he was a small child.
Sister Angela is the superior at Labuan Bajo and speaks good English. They maintain a hospital at Ruteng in Flores (about 4 hours away by road) where there is a sister who is a doctor. They are doing wonderful rehabilitative work. The mission house at Labuan Bajo even has a hydrotherapy saltwater pool which is used for therapy by a sister who is a physiotherapist. The pool is at ocean level and the water is constantly renewed with fresh saltwater from the ocean. Quite ingenious.
Br Prisca took us there for a visit to show us an example of the great work that the Holy Spirit Sisters do in their many missions in numerous countries.
Trust you enjoy this quick post
Blessings to all
