We loaded 104 food parcels in the back of the twin cab ute and delivered
them to the families of the leper community at the far end of Saburai village. Needless to say they were so appreciative of receiving a simple parcel of food. Not to be out done, many of the families provided gifts to us of bags of freshly harvested peanuts. A true sign of generosity when you have very little and even from this you are willing to share it.
It was quite an experience to witness the face of Christ in our midst. As recently highlighted by Pope Leo IV, ”It is not a question of bringing God to the poor, but of encountering God among the poor. Serving the poor is not a gesture to be made from above, but an encounter between equals, where Christ is revealed and adored.”
We look forward to seeing you at the next post on day 4 of our visit.
Blessings to all
Trevor and Tina
