There are two public primary schools in Saburai.

The upper primary school services the students from the leper end of the village. On the way to the leper, we made a stop to visit the children at the school. We distributed hairbands and candy for the girls and candy for the boys. The children were very happy to receive just a small gift. One is always very welcomed by all at the village because it provides the people with some comfort that somebody cares for them.

Because there are so many children, the school has two cohorts per day, a morning class and an afternoon class. These were the children waiting at the school for their classes to commence. Unfortunately, due to limited positions at schools in Timor Leste some children do not get a position so have to wait till the following year. The problem for the primary school students is when they get to high school age, some cannot continue schooling as it is a four hour walk to the secondary school in Maliana and many families do not have the finances to pay for transport, or boarding for their children in Maliana.

We continue our support

See you next post

Blessings to all
